Kerstin Jönßon was on the West German handball squad that finished fourth in the round-robin tournament at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She then represented Austria at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, placing fifth.
Domestically, Jönßon played with MTV Herzhorn and VfL Engelskirchen in West Germany and later in Austria with Hypobank Südstadt Wien, helping them to win the European Champions Cup in 1992. By profession, Jönßon became a freelance photographer, mainly working in sports photography.
