Romanian-born handball player Liliana Topea qualified with Austria for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. The team finished fifth.
Topea scored 169 international goals and played at club level with CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea in Romania, TV Lützellinden in Germany and Hypo Niederösterreich, and UHC Stockerau in Austria. She helped Niederösterreich win the European Champions Cup 1991-94 and the Austrian League and Cup 1992-94. In 1989 and 1990, Topea won the Romanian national title and, in 1990, the Romanian Cup.
