Susanne, sister of Monika Unger, was a member of the Austrian female handball team that participated in the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. The team finished sixth and last in the round-robin tournament. Unger won 174 international caps. She played domestically with Hypobank Südstadt Wien (Vienna).
