Forward Siegfried Powolny was a member of the Austrian field handball team that won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He played two matches during the tournament. Domestically, Powolny played with Linzer ASK. He was killed in action during World War II in 1944 near Kabarovtsy in Russia, now Ukraine.
