Midfielder Siegfried Purner was a member of the Austrian field handball team that won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He played two matches during the tournament. Domestically, he played with Tiroler Handballverein at Innsbruck. Purner was killed in action during World War II in 1944 near Kozaki in Russia, now Belarus.
