Biography

Far right forward Birgit Wagner was a German handball player who was on the losing side in the third-place match at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, when Germany lost 24-20 to the Unified Team EUN. She won 103 international caps and scored 187 goals.

Domestically, Wagner played with SC Empor Rostock (until 1990), winning the East German national title in 1989, TV Lützellinden (1990-94), and TuS Walle Bremen (1994-98). She helped Lützellinden win the European Champions Cup in 1991, the German Cup in 1992, and the German national title and European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1993. With Bremen she added two more national titles in 1995 and 1996, and the national cup in 1995. By profession, she became a bank clerk.
