Handball goalie Rudi Rauer placed fourth with the West German team at the Montréal Olympic Games. He earned 68 international caps from 1964-80. Rauer played in the German Bundesliga for VfL Gummersbach (1979 EHF Cup Winners’ Cup, 1982 German Champion) and TuS Wellinghofen and later in the second league for TV Emsdetten. The police chief inspector was a back-up behind Manfred Hofmann during his career, and was also part of the 1978 World Champion team.
