Back forward Wolfgang Schwenke was on the German handball squad at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics when the team finished a disappointing tenth. He won 53 international caps and scored 96 goals. Domestically, he played with VfL Bad Schwartau (until 1987 and 1995-96) and THW Kiel (1987-95 and 1996-2001).
During his active career Schwenke was German Champion five times in 1994-95 and 1998-2000, German Cup winner 1998-2000, and also EHF-Cup winner in 1998. He then started a coaching career with TSV Altenholz and Rhein-Neckar Löwen. In 2009, he moved to football (soccer) and became CEO of Holstein Kiel.
