Handball player Holger Winselmann competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but the East German team finished a disappointing seventh. He played with German national teams (former GDR and re-unified Germany) in 234 international matches and scored 483 goals. In 1986, he won the bronze medal at the World Championships and in 1990 the East German team finished eighth. The re-unified German team placed tenth at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and fourth at the 1995 Worlds.
Domestically, Winselmann played with SC Magdeburg, helping them to win four national titles in 1983-85, and 1988, the East German Cup in 1990, and German Cup in 1996. After his retirement Winselmann started a coaching career at lower league clubs.
