Biography

Ágota Bujdosó began her career in 1957 at the Angyalföld Sports School, and from 1960 to 1978 she played as a goalkeeper for Vasas. Bujdosó was part of the team that won seven consecutive Hungarian championships between 1972 and 1978. She also won the Hungarian Cup in 1969, 1971, 1974, and 1976. In 1978 she reached the final of the European Champions Cup with her club.

Between 1965 and 1977 Bujdosó played in 168 matches for the Hungarian national team, serving as the team’s captain from 1969 onwards. At the 1971 World Championship in the Netherlands, the team finished third, and in 1973 in Yugoslavia, fourth. She captained the team that placed third at both the 1975 World Championship in the Soviet Union and the 1976 Montreal Olympics. In 1975 she was named the best goalkeeper of the World Championship. In 1973 and 1975, she was selected as Hungary’s Handball Player of the Year. In 1986 she received the title “Honorary Champion of Vasas.”

Bujdosó trained as a bookbinder, working at the Zrínyi Printing House, and then at the in-house printing press of Tungsram. From 1973 she was a bookbinder at Medicor, from 1989 at Optimum Printing, and from 1991 at Kopint Datorg Co. She retired in 1996.
