Biography

László Szabó started his sports career in athletics, but later changed to handball. He played for the Szegedi Volán team, helping them win the 1977 Hungarian Championship and leading them to three titles in the National Cup (1977, 1980, 1982). Szabó was capped 211 times, scoring 374 international goals, and competed at the 1980 and 1988 Olympics. He also won a silver medal at the 1986 World Championships. Near the end of his career he played for clubs in Austria and Germany.

Szabó later entered the business world, but struggled as an entrepreneur and then developed health issues. He was wheelchair bound at the time of his death in 2017.
