Biography

Andrzej Szymczak was a handball goalkeeper who played for Poland 234 times in internationals between 1967-84. In addition to his two Olympic appearances, Szymczak participated in four World Championships (1970, 1974, 1978, 1982), winning bronze in 1982. He played for various Polish clubs between 1964-84, competing for Sokół Konstantynów Łódzki, Włókniarz Konstantynów Łódzki, Śląsk Wrocław, Anilana Łódź, and Anilana Łódź and in Austria for ASKÖ Linz SBL. In the late 1970s and early 1980s Szymczak was considered one of the top goalkeepers in the world.
