Bengt Johansson was a player and a coach for the Swedish national handball team. Johansson played in 83 matches for Sweden between 1964 and 1972, and coached the team from 1988 to 2004. Johansson was born in Halmstad and played handball for HK Drott. He was part of the Swedish team that competed at the 1972 München Olympics, playing in three matches.
As a coach, Johansson led the Swedish team to 13 medals at major tournaments, including gold at the 1990 and 1999 World Men’s Handball Championship, and three silver medals at the Olympics from 1992 to 2000. After Sweden failed to qualify for the 2004 Athens Olympics, Johansson quit as the team’s coach.
