Biography

Johanna Hagn was a German heavyweight judoka who won the bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Her greatest moment came in 1993 when she won the World Championships at Hamilton, Canada. She also won a medal of each colour at the European Championships; gold in 1997, silver in 1996 and bronze in 2000.

Domestically, Hagn won the national title in 1993, 1995, and 1997. She later became female youth national coach, and then took over the sports promotion group for judo in the Deutsche Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces). Hagn graduated as a sports coach, and in 1999 was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
