Biography

From 1980 to 1994 Jorge Aguirre won six medals at the Pan American Judo Championships, including gold in the 95 kg class in 1994 in Santiago. Three years earlier Aguirre won bronze in the half-heavyweight at the Pan American Games in La Habana. This earned him a place on the Argentine Olympic team for the 1992 Games in Barcelona. After beating Pat Roberge (CAN) and Moussa Sall (SEN), he lost to Odvogiin Baljinnyam (MGL) in the quarter-finals of his pool to be eliminated. Following his retirement Aguirre worked as a coach for the national team, in addition to running his own boxing gym.
