Biography

Anto Clarke began his judo career through the club system in Ireland, staring out at the Parkgate Street Club in Dublin in 1960. Three years later Clarke had received his 1st Dan, before earning his 2nd Dan in 1968. During this time, he won multiple Irish and British championships, and opened a judo club in Palmerstown. Clarke then went to London to train to further his career, eventually earning a place on Ireland’s Olympic team for the 1972 München Games. He fought in the lightweight class, but lost to Ferenc Szabó (HUN) in the opening round.
