Biography

Reino “Fagu” Fagerlund was a Finnish judoka who competed at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. That same year he won a class title at the English Open. Fagu won a bronze medal at the 1974 World Championships. He won six Finnish Championships and 13 medals at the Finnish Championships.

Fagerlund became known as a youth coach in the Judolithic League. In the 1980s he also served as head coach of the Icelandic Judo Association. In the 1990s, he worked as a teacher and a judo teacher at the Kuttula Family Home, and from 2001-04, Fagu was the head coach of the Judo League and was named Coach of the Year in 2005-08.

Fagerlund studied mathematics and physics at the University of Turku and physical sciences at the University of Jyväskylä. In 2008, on the founding of the Finnish Judo Hall of Fame, Fagerlund was inducted as the first member.
