Ernest Fearman (for many years, believed to be Edward) enjoyed boxing success early in his career. In 1900, he reached the final of the bantamweight event at the Northampton Institute, and a year later was the winner of the Polytechnic Open lightweight title. The following year, 1902, Fearman reached the ABA lightweight final, losing to Highgate’s A. Warner, the defending champion. Although Fearman won little of note in the years leading up the 1908 London Olympics, he was still selected for the lightweight competition, but lost his opening bout to the eventual gold medallist, Fred Grace. Fearman was appointed Lynn BC vice-captain in 1909, and in 1913 became an ABA referee, officiating in many Championships. In 1932 he was made president of the Lynn club, in the year they moved to their new premises in Walworth Road, London. An electrician by trade, his brother William also boxed for the Lynn club.
