Ivorian judoka Gaston Oulah was a 7th dan black belt who won multiple national and international competitions during the 1970s and 1980s. Oulah was an Ivory Coast champion in both individual and team events, as well as being an African vice-champion. In 1984 he competed in the half-middleweight event at the Los Angeles Olympics but lost his opening bout to the eventual gold medallist Frank Wieneke (FRG). Oulah then fought Hiromitsu Takano (JPN) in the repêchage round but was again defeated to be eliminated from the tournament.
