Biography

Patrick Reiter was an Austrian judoka participating at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. He competed in the half-middleweight division and was eliminated in the pool stages on both occasions. In 1996, he was seen as the favourite for the gold medal but sensationally lost his first-round bout after 91 seconds by ippon against Vladimir Shmakov of Uzbekistan.

Reiter won the Junior World Championships in 1992 at Buenos Aires, and in 1995 and 1998 collected two bronze medals. The peak of his sporting career was in 1995 when he won the European Championships. Reiter also won national titles between 1993-96 and again in 2000.

Reiter was engaged by German club TSV Abensberg during the 1990’s and helped them win the European Club Cup three times in 1994, 1996-97. In Austria, he was affiliated with Judo Team Sanjindo Bischofshofen. Later he lived in the USA as a marketeer before returning to Austria where he founded a personnel development company.
