John Lloyd boxed while serving with the Royal Field Artillery in India and won many prizes and titles. On his return, he joined he City School of Physical Culture in Cardiff and showed outstanding skill and strength. He was selected to fight in the featherweight division at the 1908 London Olympics, where he lost on points to Scotland’s Hugh Roddin in his opening bout, in what was a hard fought and close encounter. Little else is known of Lloyd’s boxing career.
