Brazilian military man Sálvio Lemos was a keen sportsman who competed in the modern pentathlon during the 1950s. In 1956 Lemos was part of the Brazilian team that competed at the Melbourne Olympics where he placed 27th. His individual score also contributed to the placings in the team event, but compatriot Nilo da Silva failed to finish, resulting in the Brazilian team failing to place in the final rankings. Lemos was part of the team that won the South American modern pentathlon title for three consecutive years from 1956 to 1958.
