Biography

Herbert Bramfeldt was a German modern pentathlete who competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and finished 12th in the individual event. Bramfeldt was a police officer (detected inspector) by profession. He was a member of the Secret State Police (Gestapo) in Berlin and Potsdam, also SS-Hauptsturmführer and a member of the Waffen-SS. After World War II he was charged with suspected criminal offenses. He participated in September 1943 in the so-called “Gran Sasso Raid” under SS-Hauptsturmführer Otto Skorzeny to free Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini.
