Maciek started fencing in Poland at 17 in 1979. He competed in the Modern Pentathalon, with fencing being one of the events he excelled in. Maciek won 7 World Cup medals in Pentathalon between 1990 and 1996, as well as a Silver at the 1991 European Championships.
Maciek was the Polish National Pentathalon champion in 1985 and 1997. He is also a 3-time US National Gold medalist in Epee and the 2017 Veteran National Champion.
Maciek began coaching in 2003 in Denver, and in 2009 he founded the Rocky Mountain Fencing Academy, which has partnered with Denver Fencing Center to provide the highest level of epee instruction.
