Ted White’s father, also called Ted, was the 1887 ABA heavyweight champion and, after turning professional, became the British middleweight champion. At the National Sporting Club, London in 1895 he claimed a notable scalp when he beat the American Charles “Kid” McCoy over 10 rounds. Less than four months later, McCoy was world middleweight champion.
Ted White Jr. also became a professional boxer, but not until he had a successful amateur career. He reached the 1920 ABA middleweight final, where he lost to the reigning champion Harry Mallin, who went on to win the Olympic title that year. Two years later, White won his only ABA title when he beat S. Simpson (Clapton) to capture the welterweight title. In 1923 he joined the professional ranks but, in an 11-year career, had less than a dozen fights, and certainly never reached the same heights as his father.
