Barclay Wade rowed double sculls alongside Gary Pearce at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He grew up in Clifton Gardens, New South Wales, attended Shore School in North Sydney, and won the GPS Head of the River three times. In 1962 and 1963 he was Australian single sculls champion. He later became a coach with the Mosman Rowing Club.
Wade spent much of his life volunteering, including 22 years for Lifeline, with four years vice-president for the Northern Beaches Lifeline, and six years with Camp Quality. In the lead-up to Sydney 2000 he was a planning volunteer and an official guide to the venues. Wade was an avid yachtsman in later life and fittingly passed on the day of the start of the Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race.
