East German boxer Harry Lempio was born in Poland. He won the East German championships in the featherweight class in 1955 and 1956, as a light-welterweight in 1958, and as a lightweight in 1960. At the Roma Olympics the same year he was eliminated in the second round by his Polish opponent Kazimierz Paździor. Lempio later worked as a boxing coach.
