Biography

At the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics, bantamweight boxer Dieter Berg lost his first-round bout by a 3-0 decision against Moroccan Mohamed Achik, who would later win the bronze medal. Domestically, Berg won four consecutive national titles in the former GDR from 1985-88 in the flyweight, and two more German titles in the bantamweight class after reunification, in 1991 and 1993.

His greatest moment was in 1985 when he won the European Amateur Championships. Berg also won the Chemie Cup international tournament at Halle on Saale in 1985, 1989, and 1992. In 1989 he won a bronze medal at the Europeans. Berg later ran the “Olympia” pub at Schwerin.
