Biography
West German boxer Helmut Gertel, brother of Stefan Gertel, had the misfortune at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics of meeting the eventual light-welterweight gold medalist, Jerry Page of the USA, in his first round bout. Gertel lost by a 5-0 decision. He never turned professional but engaged in around 200 amateur bouts, and perhaps surprisingly, he never won a national title.
