Boxer Ernst Müller lost his third round light-welterweight bout at the 1976 Montréal Summer Olympics against Bulgarian Vladimir Kolev by 5-0 decision clearly. From 1975-77 he won West German titles in the light-welterweight class, and from 1978-80 in the welterweight class. In 1979 he was European amateur welterweight champion, but he never turned professional. Due to the US-led boycott of the 1980 Moskva Games he was not able to participate in his second Olympics.
By profession, Müller was a glassblower, but he later worked as an administrator with the municipality of his hometown Düren. He also was engaged as a boxing coach for many years.
