Biography

East German boxer Andreas Otto lost his first round bout against Canadian Howard Grant at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the light-welterweight class. Four years later, now representing re-unified Germany, he reached the welterweight quarter-finals at Barcelona, but lost against the eventual champion Michael Carruth from Ireland, and was placed fifth.

Domestically, Otto won East German national titles in 1982, 1985-86, and 1988, and German titles from 1990-95, in various weight classes. At the World Championships, Otto won silver in 1989 and 1991, and bronze in 1993 and 1995. At the Europeans he added two more bronze medals, in 1989 and 1993.
