German lightweight boxer Marco Rudolph won the silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, only losing the final to American Oscar de la Hoya by a 7-2 decision. Rudolph had beaten de la Hoya the previous year to win the world amateur title.
Oscar De La Hoya turned professional shortly after the 1992 Olympics and became one of boxing’s greats. Rudolph also turned professional, in 1995, but did not have any success and retired in 1998. He later worked as a fitness trainer, butcher and pub owner, before becoming jobless, and in 2008 he filed for personal bankruptcy. The following year he went to jail for 95 days for failing to pay alimony.
