Biography

German lightweight boxer Hans-Werner Wohlers from Hamburg was eliminated at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games in the last 16, losing to the eventual silver medalist Aleksy Antkiewicz from Poland. Wohlers then turned professional and enjoyed a successful career winning 47 of his 58 fights up to 1964, with just six losses, and five draws. In 1959 he fought the famous Gustav “Bubi” Scholz for the German and European middleweight titles but lost on points over 15 rounds. Wohlers did, however, win the German title in 1961.
