René Duhamel rowed double sculls alongside Bernard Monnereau at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics, just missing medals, placing fourth in 1960 and sixth in 1964. The pair had finished second at the 1958 European Championships. Together they won 10 French Championships in double sculls, but the highlight of their career came in 1962 when they won the World Championships in doubles in Lucerne. At the 1963 Mediterranean Games Duhamel and Monnereau won gold in doubles. Duhamel represented Avignon SN, Rouen CNA, and Caderousse SN during his rowing career.
