André Giriat won a bronze medal in coxed pairs in 1932 together with Ansèlme Brusa and Pierre Brunet. One year earlier he was European Champion with the same crew. He was fourth in the 1936 Olympic double sculls with Robert Jacquet and won a bronze medal at the 1935 European Championships. Giriat won his first of a total 10 French Championships in 1925 in the single sculls for novices and his last in 1945 in the double sculls. The others came with the coxed pairs (1927, 1931), the double sculls (1935-37, 1939) and the eights (1942-43).
