Biography

Alphonse Meignant did his national service with the 31e Bataillon de Chasseurs à Pied from 1903-05. He later became a top rower, competing for Société Nautique de Bayonne, and racing at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics in the inriggers’ coxed fours. In August 1914 Meignant was called up to his old regiment as a private second class. He was killed during the First Battle of Ypres in November 1914.
