Born to wealthy Swiss parents, Émile Wegelin was mentored as an artist by Émile Noirot, a prominent artist in the Loire Region. He was later strongly influenced by Pierre Montezin (1874-1946), studying with him for several years. Wegelin’s paintings were exhibited regularly at the Société Lyonnaise des Beaux-Arts, earning first prize at the 1930 Spring Exhibition. He also showed his painting in Provence, Lausanne, and Fribourg.
