Biography

In July 1908, Collier Cudmore was member of the crew from Magdalen College, Oxford that won both the Stewards’ and the Visitors’ at Henley and was then given the honor of representing Great Britain in the coxless fours at the Olympic regatta later the same month. Before coming to England, Cudmore attended St. Peter’s College, and Adelaide University and while at Magdalen rowed in the Oxford boats of 1908 and 1909. He was Called to the Bar in 1910 and then returned to his native Australia to practice law. Before too long he was back in Europe for the war in which he was wounded twice while serving with the Royal Field Artillery in France. In post-war years his legal practice in Adelaide flourished and he had ample time to devote to politics. He rose to become leader of the powerful Liberal and Country Party and in 1958 he as knighted for his political services.
