L. G. Potter had a long association with the Nottingham Union Rowing Club, but major victories were sparse. Apart from beating Clapton Warwick RC at Henley to earn the right to represent Britain in the coxed fours at the 1928 Olympics, his only other major achievement with the Nottingham club was in reaching the final of the Wyfold Challenge Cup coxless fours at Henley in 1932, only to lose to London Rowing Club. It was the Nottingham club’s first ever appearance in a Henley final. Potter continued rowing after World War II when he also captained Nottingham Union, and was also a local rowing official and race starter.
