Educated at Nottingham’s High Pavement Grammar School, Patrick Wright’s early rowing career was spent at Nottingham Rowing Club before going to University College Hospital London to study dentistry. He rowed for the London University eights and became captain, guiding them to victory in the 1968 Grand Challenge Cup at Henley. A few months later Wright again rowed number six when the London crew represented Great Britain at the Mexico Olympics. Wright worked as a dentist in London before becoming a partner in the Chalkwell Dental Practice at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex in 1974. He retired in 2009.
