Biography

Helmut Heinhold won a surprise silver medal in the coxed pairs with Heinz Manchen and Helmut Noll at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. They qualified for the games as winners of the German Championships the same year. Heinhold and Manchen won the Germans again in 1953 and 1954 but with different coxes. At the 1953 European Championships they finished second. Heinhold then moved to the eights and was in the crew that finished third at the national championships each year from 1957-59. Noll, Manchen and Heinhold were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf for their 1952 Olympic silver medal.
