As a member of the Neptun Rowing Club, Béla Szendey won the national championship in single sculls in 1923-28, 1930-31, and 1933, and in double sculls in 1923-31 and 1933. At the 1924 Paris Olympics, he finished fifth in double sculls alongside Ervin Mórich. In 1930 in Liège, Szendey won the European Championship in single sculls, so he was Hungary’s first European Champion in rowing. In 1926 in Lucerne and at Lake Como in 1927, he was second in the same event. He won silver in 1931 in Paris and a bronze in 1933 in Budapest in double sculls with his brother András. After finishing his career, Béla Szendey worked as a coach.
