Imre Wampetich

Imre Wampetich came from a wealthy family. His father, Ferenc Wampetich owned a lot of land in Nógrád County. Until 1910 they owned a Budapest restaurant, which later became the famous Grundel Restaurant.

Imre Wampetich was a versatile athlete. He rowed in summer and speed skated in winter and also played football for 33 FC. As a skater, he was the 1906 Hungarian champion representing BKE and, at the 1908 London Olympics, was a member of the famous Pannónia rowing eights. After the Olympics, he quit rowing and was, for a while, responsible for rowing and speed skating articles for the Sportvilág magazine.

Wampetich also enjoyed horse riding and, in 1925, retired to the family estate to engage in farming.
