Ferenc Nagy

Ferenc Nagy wrestled in Cegléd and boxed in Budapest in the colors of BVSC. In wrestling, he was a member of the Ceglédi MOVE youth champion team in 1934, but he achieved bigger success in boxing. In the heavyweight category he won six individual championships between 1935 and 1940 and was a member of the winning team twice (1934 and 1937). Between 1935 and 1939 he appeared 22 times with the Hungarian national team.

At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Nagy won two bouts, reaching the semi-final, and appeared to be a candidate for the gold medal. However, the Hungarian team leadership withdrew him from both the semi-final against the German Herbert Runge and the bronze match against the Norwegian Erling Nilsen, citing an injury. Since Nagy was not injured, many thought there might have been political reasons behind that decision. Nagy also competed at the 1937 European Championships, where he finished fourth.

Nagy retired in 1940 and between 1941-65 he was the coach of the BVSC and the Rákoscsabai MTK, then between 1965 and 1977 he was a coach with the Hungarian national team.
