Mátyás Plachy’s boxing career began in 1950 with the Mávag team, and later he completed it with Vasas and Bp. Dózsa. Plachy won his only individual Hungarian championship in 1951 in middleweight, which he supplemented with a team championship title the following year.
Between 1950 and 1955 Plachy was a member of the Hungarian national team. He achieved his greatest successes at the World University Championships, finishing third in both Berlin in 1951 and Budapest in 1954. He participated in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and three European Championships.
At the Olympics he met his future wife, Margit Korondi, whom he married in 1955. Plachy also finished boxing that year.
After the 1956 revolution was crushed, Plachy left for Austria and settled in New York with his wife. In the new world he took up the gloves again under the name Matt Plachy and fought in 12 professional matches between 1958 and 1963. In addition to boxing, he worked in a coffee processing plant and as a parquet floor maker. After their divorce, Plachy then moved to Los Angeles, where he entered the world of cinema. He had a good figure, tall and attractive, so he was used as a stunt double in dangerous scenes.
