Biography

Marino Specia was an Italian rower who competed in the 1960s and early 70s. Coached by Mario Ustolin at the Ravalico Vigili del Fuoco (Fire Brigade) Sports Group in Trieste, Specia became the Italian youth single sculls champion in 1965.

After moving to the coxless pairs, Specia won the senior title for three consecutive years (1966-68), and later the coxless fours title in 1970 and 1972. He made his debut with the national team at the 1966 international race in Castel Gandolfo. Later that year, he teamed up with Ennio Fermo at the World Championships in Bled, finishing sixth.

Specia reached the pinnacle of his international career at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, finishing tenth overall. After his competitive rowing career, Specia’s passion became sailing, and he took part in several important regattas.
