Lucia Sauca, later Toader, started rowing with Metalul Sports Club and later with CSA Steaua. She won multiple national titles in different boats from 1982-88. In addition to her 1984 silver medal in the eight, Sauca competed at the World Championships from 1983-86, winning a bronze medal in the eight in 1985, and winning world titles in the coxed fours in 1986 and the eight in 1987. She was later named an Emeritus Master of Sports in Romania.
