Velletri’s Spartaco Bandinelli was an Italian boxer who started competing as an amateur at age 16. He was drafted into the Italian Army during World War II, and after the conflict joined A.S. Audace, a Roman sports club.
In 1948 Bandinelli won the Italian Championship in Milano by beating Ennio Aroldi. At the London Olympics, after four victories, he was defeated in the final against the Argentine Pascual Pérez, one of the greatest flyweights of all-time. Bandinelli never turned pro. In 2008 the municipality of Velletri dedicated their new Sports Hall in his honor.
