Alessandro D’Ottavio started boxing after World War II, and at age 19 won a bronze medal at the 1948 London Olympics. He turned pro in 1949, winning his first 12 bouts, before losing in May 1951 to William Poli.
D’Ottavio fought almost exclusively in Italy and made several attempts to win the Italian middleweight title, before defeating Rocco Mazzola in July 1957 to take the crown. He fought three more times, twice more against Mazzola, losing all three bouts, and then retired. D’Ottavio had a career professional record of 29 wins (4 KOs), 13 losses (4 by KO), and 4 draws.
