Biography

Ermanno Fasoli was an Italian boxer whose career as an amateur and later as a professional took place in the 1960s and the early 1970s. He began his amateur career with the Società Pugilistica Mandellese-Moto Guzzi and won the Italian Championship in March 1964 which earned him selection for the Tokyo Olympics.

Fasoli defeated a Korean in Tokyo before bowing out in the round of 16 to the more experienced Iosif Mihalic of Romania. The next year Fasoli won a European Championship bronze medal when, after beating opponents from Luxembourg and Finland, he was forced to withdrew from his scheduled semi-final with Olympic champion Jerzy Kulej.

Fasoli turned pro in the spring of 1966 and won 24 of his first 26 fights. In his 27th bout he made an attempt on the Italian light-welterweight title, but lost to Romano Fanali by knockout. Four months later he gained his revenge by winning a points decision over Fanali. Fasoli defended his title four times between 1969 and 1971 before losing to Piero Ceru. He retired following a loss to Frenchman Joseph Sossou, the fifth defeat of his career, in 1972. His final professional record was 35 wins, 5 defeats and 2 draws.
